IDP (Internally
Displaced Person)
Zugdidi, Georgia
A
young IDP girl looks out the doorway of the home she shares with
her grandmother in a collective center in Zugdidi, Georgia. They
are victims of a frozen conflict, one that has no resolution in the
foreseeable future. They fled the war in Abkhazia, crossing the front
line into Western Georgia. They have nothing. As I visited their
home in an abandoned factory, I could sense the hopelessness in their
surroundings, yet I could see the hope in her eyes. She touched me
with her innocence and her wanting of something better. Yet she has
no opportunities to follow. Children are vulnerable and are one of
the most visible victims of war. Not just those that die, but also
those that survive. |
